Leyton Orient part company with Geraint Williams

3 Apr

Just heard via @OrientMeatPie on Twitter, confirmed on the orient website. It’s hard to say if this is a good decision or not, the assistant manager Kevin Nugent will take over for the game on monday at Southampton, maybe someone else will come in after monday, but they will have six games to turn it round and keep us in League One.
It’s unusual for Hearn act this quickly, many would say he kept Taylor, Brush and Ling on far too long when results were going against them.
That said, losing home games by todays score is UNNACCEPTABLE, and i understand the performance was awful. ‘Abysmal’ in Hearns words which you can read below..

FROM leytonorient.com –
LEYTON ORIENT have parted company with manager Geraint Williams following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Hartlepool United.

The result leaves Orient one point above the League One relegation zone with only one win in their last 11 games.

O’s chairman Barry Hearn said: “The peformance against Hartlepool was abysmal and ultimately the responsibility for that lies with the manager.

“We’re on a dreadful run of form and this decision has been taken in order to give us the best chance of staying in League One.

“Geraint is as honest and professional a manager as you will find in football and it’s unfortunate things have not worked out, but I thank him for his efforts and I wish him every success in the future.”

Kevin Nugent will take charge of the O’s for Monday’s game at Southampton.
