WILLIAMS DOES HIS JOB AND KEEPS ORIENT UP…

Orient fans can go to the last three games without worrying and without needing the results after this ninth win in fourteen games under Geraint Williams .In fact Orient look like ending up on more points then last year. It was a warm and sunny day in Wiltshire and a real back to the wall job by Orient who took the lead after just 3 Minutes and after that seemed to sit deeper and deeper but a win is what was achieved and secured Orient’s safety, and there was jubilation from fans and players alike at the end,

Now lets hope that Williams is at the helm next year to see where he can take it and build his own team. The win at Swindon was the 9th away from home this season, unbelievable for a team down at the bottom, and if only they could have sorted the home form we could actually have been looking at the play-offs.

As has been shown all season Orient seem to prefer playing away with that bit more freedom and the way they can get at teams on the counter attack as they have one of the best away records away from home.
Helped by another super display by Mkandwire and from surely the find of the summer in Jamie Jones, who since being in the team has proved himself to be very capable, very vocal, comes for crosses and hopefully can be number 1 at the Orient for a foreseebale future. Another couple of saves here kept Orient in the game and he always seems to make at least one save every game as he did last week against Leeds and again against Colchester.
Orient did try their luck a couple of times with Cox also hitting the post but for the large away following that had travelled down the M4 all that mattered was that Orient had held onto their League 1 status, and can look forward to playing the likes of Charlton, Brentford (and of course Stockport)

Ratings

Jones – 7. So young but so confident and good to have keeper that talks and has a go at his defenders if he thinks they have done something wrong.

Purches – 7. After the disappointment of his first year at Orient has really had a good season, including a brief stint at left back.Didn’t really give them a sniff.

Daniels 6. Tries hard, gets stuck in and has good delivery on him sometimes, but is not a left back and got to play him in midfield. Any decent winger seems to go past him with ease all though Demetriou tracking back helps him out.

Spence – 7 Done very well since coming into team, as when was first on loan at the club did not get much of a look in, but since he has taking his chance, still occasionaly prone to mistake and letting the ball bounce to often instead of attacking it but is young and still learning.

Mkandawire – 8. We can’t afford to lose him, but he could defintely make it at Championship level. Miss when not there and has slotted straight back into the team in last 3 games. One of the more experienced of the back 4 and leads by example.

Melligan – 4. very poor game, can cross a ball but only seems to do once a game, does help Purches by tracking back but then seems scared to make tackle.

Demetriou – 7. Good goal, and looked fresh after missing Saturday game, gets back well but needs to stop getting involved in silly scraps sometimes, but good to see that he never gives up. Always involved and not scared to make tackle.

Thornton – 7. Is showing what he can do. Maybe because he needs new contract but seems to be doing consistently which good to see. Gets stuck and in and has good range of passing him. Looks better with Terry or Smith then did with Chambers. Got taken off with Knock

Terry
– 8. Yet again a good game from Terry away from home, which vast majority of fans don’t see. His ball to Gray also started move for goal. And protects the back 4 away from home and think he is one of reasons we have a good defensive record away from home because he sits there which also allows Thornton more freedom.

McGleish – 6. Looked tired but never gave up. Wins so much in the air and got to be deserving of a contact for next year.

Gray 7. Did well for goal and held up ball well at other times. Looked very tired at end which is understandable. Defenders don’t like his strength and good to see him Back

Subs:

Church for McGleish – Please Reading – go up so can take him on year next year

Smith
– for Thornton
